I used to think fueling was something elite runners worried about.
I wasn't running ultras. I wasn't chasing podium finishes. Why would I need to think about nutrition?
Then I started noticing a pattern.
My long runs felt harder than they should.
Recovery took forever.
Some days my legs felt empty before the run had even properly started.
I spent months looking for answers in training plans when the answer was sitting right in my kitchen.
I wasn't eating enough.
Running creates stress, and your body needs energy to adapt to that stress. If you're consistently under-fueling, you're asking your body to do more work with fewer resources.
Once I started paying attention to pre-run and post-run nutrition, I felt the difference almost immediately. Recovery improved. Energy levels stabilized. Long runs became more manageable.
We spend so much time researching shoes, watches, and training methods.
Meanwhile, one of the biggest performance factors is simply making sure you're giving your body enough fuel to do the work.
