People love talking about motivation.
Motivational videos.
Motivational quotes.
Motivational playlists.
But after years of running, I've learned that motivation is wildly overrated.
Most of my best training blocks weren't fueled by motivation.
They were fueled by habit.
Nobody feels excited for every run. Some mornings you're tired. Some days work drains your energy. Some weeks life gets in the way.
The runners who succeed aren't the ones who feel motivated every day.
They're the ones who show up anyway.
I've had runs where I spent the first ten minutes convincing myself not to turn around and go home. I've had days where the couch looked far more appealing than my running shoes.
But almost every time I finished the run, I was glad I did it.
Motivation comes and goes.
Consistency sticks around.
And consistency is what moves the needle.
